Helpful Candle Care:

1. Natural soy wax needs a good flame to have a full wax melt pool.

If you see any soot build up or smoke billowing up from the candle it could be caused from the wick that may be too long or clogged with carbon.

This is common when the wax begins to melt and the flame is lowered into a container.

As the flame burns, it pulls the wax up the wick and mixes with the oxygen in the container.

In some instances, the container may not provide enough oxygen for the wax to efficiently burn and it may cause carbon (the black sooty residue) to build up.

It may effect the color of the wax but should not change the scent of the candle.

One way to correct this issue is to simply extinguish the candle and wait for the wax to cool before removing any charred pieces and re-trimming wick length to 1/4 inch.

Discard the cooled candle when the wax is 1/4 inch or less from the bottom of container for your safety.

2. Helpful hint:  Did you know that candle wax has a burn memory?

It is important that for the very first lighting of your new candle must be a MINIMUM of two hours for the full melt pool to develop and cover the entire surface of the candle.  Once this full melt is established (roughly two + hours for candles 2 1/2 " or greater in diameter, less for smaller diameters like the "mini" candles), and melted wax has reached the sides of the container, you can extinguish the candle, wait for wax to cool and solidify before trimming wick and relighting at another time.  The candle wax is now trained and should reach full melt pool within 20-30 minutes once lit for the duration of the candle wax.

Isn't the science of wax and candles fascinating!  Share this little bit of candle trivia with your other candle loving friends and families.
